Page 1 of 3 Not strictly a thought for the day,
The following three definitions have one thing in common - the assignment of human characters to non-human entities. I assume they evolved as our recognition of our environment developed, along with the parallel ability to modify elements of it.. The first I find abhorent, the other two merely amusing. Anthropomorhism - fact or fiction? Giving human characteristics to lower orders of animals, including ?"our closest living relatives"!!!?. People will say "oh my cat loves me" when what they mean is that the cat thrives on the food and shelter they offer.
Mechapromorphiusm - my word for the trait of giving names to machines, eg Penny. And the further use of the female article when talking about them. It is an affliction that affects more males than females.
Astrapromorphism - my word for the idea of giving astronomical bodies the ability to rule our lives in a way other than the effect they have on us through physical features,, eg gravity, oxygen. The archetype for this phenomenon is astrology. |
